Tamang Heritage Trek

Tamang heritage trekking site is located at north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border. Tamang Heritage trekking is newly developed trekking route. About 150 years ago, Nepal fought Tibet over salt, and some of the biggest areas where this war took place are in the Langtang Region of Nepal. The people of this region are mostly Tibetans who came from Kerung in Tibet across the border and settled in Nepal. The people in this place are of Mongoloid stock whose culture goes back to hundreds of years. They are descendants from Tibet and have hardly seen any tourist. Their culture is virtually untouched. It is an interesting trek viewing tamang villages, settlements, the craftsmanship, stone-mud house which hightlights an ancient lifestyle.

The trekking trail passes through trraditional Tamang and Tibetan villages and goes until the Tibetan border – Rasuwagadhu passing through Syabrubensi which aslo can follow the trail leading to popular trekking routes to Langtang and Gosaikunda.

Tamang heritage trek is an exciting trek into the Himalayas which offers travelers a look into the everyday lives of the Tamang people, their culture, religion and crafts which have remained unblemished since the establishment of settlement. They are mountain inhabitant of Langtang region, they dress colorful and their houses are embellished with beautifully carved wooden porches. Warm traditional welcome hosted by the locals, rich architectures of their houses, Buddhist monasteries, costumes, combining it with picturesque scenery and healing baths in natural hot spring in Tatopani add colors to the experience of this trek. This trek also offers back country experience through gorgeous background of alpine scenery, flat pastures and Rhododendron forests.

The best season for this trek is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Although this trip can be taken during winter, the cold temperature might not be suitable for everyone. Tamang Heritage trekking is for those person who loves to see traditional and untouched heritage.
