Nagarkot is a popular hill station very close on the eastern side of Kathmandu valley. Nagarkot is at 2195 m / 7200 ft. and at an altitude of 217 m and can be reached by driving about one and half hour. This quiet and panoramic hilltop is about 32 km away from Kathmandu. It is very popular as Mountain View point as you can see a great panorama of mountains over 2100 meters ranging from the Kanchanjunga in the east to Dhaulagiri in west. Eight ranges out of thirteen can be clearly seen. This also includes Mt. Everest as a dot on the horizon but with a binocular the view is stunning. The other ranges are the Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, and Gaurishankar. Nagarkot is the best place in Kathmandu from where we can have the broadest views of the Himalayas.

The four hour long hike starts from the Newari town of Sankhu, passing through the uphill trial walking inside the pine trees, bamboos. It is like you are entering a stress free zone. The view is pleasing with the green valley views on one side and the fabulous Himalayas on the others. Nagarkot is very popular for its 360 degree view tower (2200 meters). It will take 4 hours to reach Changunarayan, the oldest Pagoda style Hindu Temple in Nepal. This Temple premises one of the seven World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley. It is very beautiful walk where we explore local tamang culture with the trail remain unchanged and still exhibit their traditional countryside lifestyle. Nagarkot is also very famous for its spectacular view of sunrise and sunset.
