Mt. Manaslu is world’s eighth highest peak with an altitude of 8161m. Mt. Manaslu is a part of Nepalese Himalayas located in Gorkha district (Mansiri Himal). It is situated about 40 miles east of Mt. Annapurna (the tenth highest mountain of the earth) in Kaski District. Manaslu is located along the border of Nepal and China at west central Nepal. Mt. Manaslu is also known as Kutang. In Sanskrit ‘Manasa’ means ‘Mountain of the Spirit’ and is converted to this Gorkha’s highest peak Mt. Manaslu as ‘soul’ or ‘intellect’.

Manaslu region is a finest mountaineering and trekking destination in Nepal. It is a controlled trekking area which is requires permit to organized trekking and only limited number of groups get travel permit every year. The main route of Mt. Manaslu is Northeast face, Manaslu Expedition demands more time than other 8000 meters peaks in Nepal due to long approach to reach to the base of the mountain, however the option of helicopter can make an expedition shorter. Manaslu Expedition is considered one of the most dangerous mountain climbing activities and is best for the experienced climbers. 

Manaslu area is popular between Japanese trekkers and has been regarded as the ‘Japanese mountain’ by Japanese. After few attempts in 1953 and 1956 Manaslu was finally climbed by Japanese in 1956. This Japanese team was all female and introduced a first women successor of climbing over 8000 meters peak. Manaslu offers itself the best alternative to Cho Oyu, also it is seen by some mountaineers as a better training mountain for Everest than Cho Oyu. Best season for Manaslu Expedition are spring season of March to May and autumn season of September to November. Monsoon rains and the winter rains are considered to be the most unfavorable time climbing. Manaslu is one of the very famed beautiful mountains in the world to which, many foreigner zealot to climb very specifically.
