The trek starts with an hour-long flight to Tumlingtar, east of Nepal and heads up the Aurn River valley across the terraced fields and villages to reach Chichira and to Sedua and Num, then crossing Shipton La Pass (4210 m) to the upper Barun river valley for a close look at Makalu and Chamlang Himal. This trek also visits one of the most distant and unfrequented areas of Nepal. The Barun valley is a part of immense international protected area under the understanding between the governments of Nepal and China, which contains of 2330 sq. km of National Park and 830 sq. km of conservation area in Nepal alone. The Makalu-Barun Valley provides stunning contrasts, where high waterfalls outpour into deep gorges, jagged rocks rise from lush green forests, and colorful flowers blossom beneath white snow peaks. This unique landscape shelters some of the flawless mountain ecosystem on earth. Some rare species of animals and plant grow in diverse climate and habitats, undisturbed by human kind. More than 3000 species of flowering plants, 440 species of birds, and 75 species of mammals which includes the endangered clouded leopard, red panda and musk deer have been recorded.

Makalu Trek is an ideal choice for keen trekkers and nature enthusiasts who seek solace and peace in perfect natural habitat. Best season for Makalu trekking is from March to May and from September to November. Weather is mostly clear and the temperature is moderate which offers beautiful views without any obstruction. Trekking in Himalayas always takes us to challenging altitudes and rocky routes but the experience will be everlasting.
