Island Peak Expedition is in the Everest region of Nepal, rising 6,189 meters above the sea level. Island Peak is located in the central of Chhukung valley, on the head of the Chhukung Glacier between Mt. Lotse and Ama Dablam. The mountain was renamed as “Island Peak” in 1952 AD due to its noticeable location in the middle of the Chhukung valley which is like an island on a sea of ice. This peak was first ascended in 1953 by a Britist expedition team as preparation for the Everest expeditions, even today Island peak climb is often the first step for most of the climbers before any summit attempt of huge peaks in the Himalaya. Island Peak has an impressive, highly glaciated west face that rises from the Lhotse Glacier which is a bit hard to climb.
